Building Research Communities
PhD life can be isolating and intense. Many students get caught in the daily demands of research, writing, and deadlines, losing sight of broader academic and personal goals. When challenges arise, they may feel stuck or unsupported. Given today’s academic environment, supervisors often don’t have the time or capacity to offer the regular, focused support PhD students need.
A monthly reflection group fills this gap. It offers a structured space for students to reflect, connect with peers, and build strategies to stay motivated and move forward. The groups can bring together PhD students from different universities and countries, offering a unique opportunity to share perspectives and build a sense of academic community across borders.
This not only strengthens individual wellbeing and performance, but also supports healthier supervision dynamics, improved completion rates, and a more connected, supportive research culture.
